Neon Skies - Patch 0.05

Welcome to the patch notes for 0.05! Here you can see all the new additions and changes made to the game.

For any newcomers

Neon Skies is a 3D, multiplayer game based on the game mode Battle Royale. Similar to Hunger Games, you are summoned to an arena to fight for survival. The game takes place somewhere in the future on an island floating among the clouds covered by jungle-looking vegetation. The last man standing wins the game, and the rest of the players have to join a new game session to play again.

We are also introducing a crafting + upgrading system to let the players personalize their own item builds. Additionally we are implementing a stealth mechanic, letting all players stay close to invisible, except for when performing actions such as entering combat, crafting/upgrading weapons or picking up loot. This means that the players need to make both strategic and quick decisions in order to come out victorious.

TL;DR: Fight to be the last man standing on a floating island. Craft and upgrade any weapon you want. You are stealthed/invisible unless performing certain actions (combat, crafting, looting etc.). Be smart, do not die, and you will win.

Server

We are currently setting up a server for the game that is planned to run on a separate computer. This is a tedious step that takes time and needs to be done properly in order to continue with the actual code for the game. Our main focus for the upcoming week will be having the server running smoothly so that we can start playtesting!

Level

We now have an island! Our first level design is ready and most of the environmental assets are implemented. We have worked with the terrain of the level and added some neat looking lighting, fog and leaf/dust particles to make the environment look more alive. Additionally, we have added dirt paths to guide the player to important objectives and placed out trees, bushes, flowers and other plants. We are far from finished, but we are getting close to a playtestable level.

Player animations

During the first week we have plenty of player animations ready to be implemented to the game. There are many more to come, especially since we need to create animations for both 1st and 3rd person perspective. Animations are time consuming, but we are proud to present some of the ones we have managed to get done so far!

Crafting material

This is Neno, one of the crafting materials we are releasing for our Beta version of the game. Neno is a rare crystal that is used both to craft and upgrade weapons and can be found on various locations of the level.

Crafting station

The crafting station model is ready, but not yet textured. This will be where you turn in resources to create your weapons.

Sword & bow

Both the models for the sword and bow are currently in progress. We have some code for them as well, but we are far from finished. We are aiming to get the bow implemented as soon as we are done with the server so that we can start playtesting with our first weapon. More updates on this next week!
